Last night I was working on trying to convert the videos I took on the Cannon FS100 (which turned out to be MOD files) and I can’t even view it on the computer. It was very frustrating especially when the Cannon manual said the Cannon utilities which came in the CD-Rom would not work with the camcorder! What’s the point of downloading the solutions disk then?? I tried to find information online on how to convert these files to either AVI or MPEG and after much reading, thanks to all those ahead of me who have experienced the same issues and frustration like I did, I finally downloaded a free mpeg streamclip from Square 5 and then purchased the MPEG 2 playback from QuickTime through Apple’s Website. As usual I’m up all night till around 4am before I took some shut eye. Beautiful day today and continued with weeding and more planting of flowers. Wonder where I should put the Callidum? I have lots of shady areas where plants tend not to do too well. I even trimmed the boxwood bush and significantly cut down the branches of one of those stray trees that planted itself in the front of the house. Now I can look out to the road.

I just bought the FS100. iMovie 08 directly converts the video from this camera, without additional utilities. Just connect the camera and import!

Thanks Chris!
I have not gotten iMovie 08 yet. Perhaps later on this year, I might get it.

Does taking out the SD card and downloading via external card reader in any way affect the video files?
The reason I ask is I’ve tried importing into iMovie 08 and, though my software SEES the files, they can’t be imported. The dialogue window box to import cannot be activated.
Ideas?
Thx,

Sorry for the late reply as I’ve not been around lately.
In answer to your question: No taking out the DS card did not affect the video files. However, I have had problems downloading directly from the video camera – the computer would not recognize the camera and I could not download the vids. But if I use an external card reader, the computer recognizes the external drive and I can download the vids this way. Incidentally, I did get iMovie08 but felt the editing was not as good as the iMovie06/older version. So I’m still using the latter to edit my vids and converting MOD files to MOV files via Square5 Streamclip.
