Pink cat and print socksI read that today is No socks day??Which got me thinking – I used to go around the house without socks in my younger days. Now I wear them most of the time, even in summer and in the house.  Can you imagine stepping on a dead gecko with your bare foot – it’s cold and clammy and the feeling never really goes away, does it? Even thinking about it now brings back the goosebumps!

Now that I have pets, they do have accidents ever so often and I used to wear in-house fuzzy slippers  but the downside of that  is my feet are not that sensitive to what I stepped on. To compound this is the floor has a varied pattern that makes my pets’ messes hard to see. Only after the fact, that I realized I’ve trudged their accident all over the house! I still remember that one time where I stepped onto their excrement and not being aware of it – with my fuzzy slippers – but I get this whiff of a distinct metallic smell ever so often and just can’t quite put my finger on it. Only after I made a few rounds all over the house before it hit s me! OMG!  I looked at the soles and there it was – smudges of you know what…I have to retrace my steps to clean up the mess!  Took me a couple of hours and I sure did some major cleaning then!

So I believe the best solution is to have socks on in all waking moment  and when I do step on their accidents, I know it right away! The feeling is still not pleasant but at least I can do the necessary right away.  The worse time to encounter this and also the best way to wake up in the morning is to step right into a puddle of their regurgitated food of the previous night. Or worse – their excrement! The shock on contact and the instant outbursts is sure to wake the sleeping spouse or significant other and probably the neighbors – I assure you!

Since I was thinking about socks – I decided to open a new pair of cat and cat prints pink socks – I have a constant supply of socks, as you may have guessed, because when an incident happens and I happen to step into it, the socks are in the trash.  I will not wash them. They are as good as gone!  Luckily, I’ve gotten pretty good at spotting the messes as time went by so I don’t break the bank buying socks!

Gerber Daisy in cuban coffee canNow to something completely different – I had this brilliant idea of how to recycle this coffee can – given that I want to keep it. So I took a daisy and used it as a flower pot to accent my window. Sometimes I can be quite a pack rat….
